2018 Chardonnay Santa Barbara County

The 35th release of this wine. The blend is from four sites: Bien Nacido, Sierra Madre, Los Alamos and Rancho Vinedo. The average age of these Chardonnay plantings is more than 25 years. Whole-cluster pressed, and juice is quickly settled and chilled to begin barrel fermentation. Surprisingly restrained on the nose with light notes of melon and mealy oak. Full and creamy on the palate, oaky but not unbalanced. Creamy, mouth-filling and finishes with citrus freshness and a savoury quality that helps keep it all in harmony. (JH)
