The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from three vineyards, two in the south of the appellation on alluvial and clay soils, and one below Les Cazetiers next to Arnaud Mortet's winery. Blended with 20% new oak and around 25% whole bunches, it has a well defined bouquet of blackberry, briar and sous-bois aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, offering a mixture of black and blue fruit and conveying fine tension and energy on the finish. Not enormously long in the mouth, but refined and delivering all the fruit you want from a Village Cru. This comes recommended.

Aromas of sweet red berries, spices, grilled meats and rich soil introduce the 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Village, a medium-bodied wine with a firm but fine-grained chassis of tannin that I suspect will flesh out by the time it's bottled; right now, it appears a little austere.
