The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru has a magnificent nose. Perfumed and utterly seductive, it emanates multi-layered black and red fruit, forest floor, hints of black truffle shavings and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with pure black fruit that disguises the serious structure behind this wine. Gentle but insistently grippy and suffused with mineralité , this fans out wonderfully on the extremely persistent finish. There is a little ostentation derived from the growing season, but the terroir keeps it all in check. Just a little alcoholic on the aftertaste? Très grand Grand Cru. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Cask sample. Heady sour-plum nose. Colour not one of the deepest from this producer. Rather subtle and rich without being facile or sweet. Worthy of the appellation. Juicy and racy. Well balanced though with pretty marked acidity. Smooth texture and admirable pace. (JR)
The 2019 Richebourg Grand Cru is matured with 35% whole bunch, and five of the six barrels are new. It has a very perfumed bouquet of floral red berry fruit laced with crushed rock and sous-bois scents. The palate is medium-bodied with solid tannins, more savory than, say, Grivot’s Richebourg, with liberally sprinkled cracked black pepper toward the finish. It will need several years in bottle.
