Punteggio 89-91/100 · William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Jan 2021

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village unfurls in the glass with notes of rose petals, plummy fruit and spices. Medium to full-bodied, elegantly textural and nicely concentrated, it concludes with a saline finish. Like its 2018 counterpart, it's quite marked by the use of stems, but it's more integrated and texturally refined.

Haisma writes: ' The one constant in my range since day dot is the Gevrey-Chambertin, sourced from the same vineyards that once belonged to Jane and Sylvain, and that we just now happen to farm ourselves. It however still has some non-organic fruit from different parcels added to it. An important wine to me. I really do feel this demonstrates what I want to achieve: lots of whole bunch, minimal intervention and gentle extraction to give me the kind of Gevrey I want to drink any night, or day, or morning.' Quite a deep purplish crimson. Pretty damned gorgeous on the nose. So opulently fruity! Still quite tight and fresh on the palate in stark contrast to the nose. Sit on this for awhile but it should round out and provide pretty good value. GV (JR)

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village comes from "lots of little bits," to use Haisma's parlance. It contains 50% whole bunch, but you actually cannot feel the stems at all, just black cherries and blueberry fruit. The palate is well balanced with slightly chalky tannins, fine energy and a brisk, focused finish with a touch of tea leaf.
