Notes of spices, sweet berries, cherries and petals preface the 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Gueulepines, a medium-bodied, lively wine that was rather taut and introverted when I tasted it. I'm sure that the chalky tannin will round out with further élevage, however.

Haisma is particularly proud of his small production of organic old-vine wine from this lieu-dit. He says the price reflects the low production. Dark, purplish crimson. Depth of interesting, vegy fruit on the nose. Dry, ambitious palate with pure acidity and just a hint of oak but this has clearly been fashioned for a glorious future. Fine, grainy tannins on the flirtatious finish. But still very unformed. A village wine trying to be a premier cru. (JR)
No, I have never heard of this climat before either, but FYI, it is up in Brochon. The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Gueulepines, which constitutes the best two of four barrels, has a very well-defined, taut, floral bouquet that is very enticing. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and dark berry fruit tinged with orange peel toward the composed finish. Excellent, though readers should note that this will be a one-off release.
