Tasted blind. Spice and dried grasses. Much better on the palate – rich with dried apricots. Full but needs a little more acidity for balance and a longer life. (JH)

The 2020 La Tour Blanche has an opulent bouquet with perfumed lime cordial, orange blossom, apricot and saffron scents. Complex? Not really, but it conveys gusto. The palate is well balanced with a decadent entry and lavish, honeyed fruit that manages to avoid becoming cloying. Marmalade and stem ginger furnishes the finish. There’s no holding back here, and it just about manages to pull it all off. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
Pale gold in color, the 2020 la Tour Blanche opens with nutty notions of praline and toasted almonds, giving way to a core of peach cobbler, pineapple tart and baked apples, plus spicy wafts of candied ginger and nutmeg. The palate is incredibly concentrated and hedonic, its richness beautifully offset by a wicked backbone of freshness, delivering layer upon layer of nuts, stone fruits and spices, finishing with epic length and impressive lift. Wow!
The 2020 La Tour Blanche is gorgeous. Apricot, dried flowers, mint, chamomile, tangerine and coconut flesh out in the glass. Creamy, resonant and super-expressive, this is an absolute delight in 2020. All the elements are nicely balanced, and pretty floral accents on the finish make it impossible to resist a second taste.
