Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2028-2040, Julia Harding MW, jancisrobinson.com, Jan 2024

Tasted blind. Deep crimson. Lifted dark-red fruit. Seductive and open. Firm, deep, pure-fruited, really smooth and nicely balanced by freshness. Powerful and harmonious with great fruit. Long, too. Powerful style of Margaux? (JH)

The 2020 Dauzac has a very perfumed bouquet that is quintessential Margaux—crushed violets and iris flowers combine beautifully with black cassis fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins. There's a lot of concentration and plenty of fruit here, quite weighty and mouth-filling (especially for a Margaux). It may be missing the sophistication it showed a few months earlier, but you get a lot of wine in your glass. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot. Planted at 10,000 vines/hectare, average age 35–40 years. Fermented in temperature-controlled wooden and steel tanks at 28 °C. Matured in French oak barrels for 12 months before fining and bottling. RS 0 g/l. Smooth, complex, with a fine balance between ripe tannins, subtle oak, leafy red/blackcurrant fruit. An elegant and fine example of Margaux from a top vintage. (AWH)
