"We are so lucky to be on that vineyard," remarks Edouard Moueix of Bélair-Monange and it’s true – this is exceptional terroir. It’s great to taste the Ch. Bélair-Monange alongside the other Moueix wines from Pomerol, because it really shows off the limestone soils of Saint-Emilion, bringing added crunchiness to the tannins and a chalky minerality to the palate, whie still remaining fine and elegant. It has an impressive length too. Ripe black and red berry fruit is well balanced by vibrant acidity. It is another excellent rendition; does it beat 2019, though, which was one of the wines of the vintage? We’re not sure, but these are two vintages which will be fascinating to compare in the future. Excellent.

Tasted blind. Black core with crimson rim. Dark-fruited, spicy and a touch oaky. On the palate, this is much firmer than some, the tannins less refined, dark and savoury, a touch charry, with a chewy finish. (JH)

The 2020 Bélair-Monange has a more backward nose with dense black fruit. There is a very noticeable cedar/Cabernet element here that indicates that it might be Lafleur. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins—another top Right Bank wine with a cashmere/creamy texture. It's lavish and beautifully composed on the ethereal finish. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.
