The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru is quite toasty on the nose—another from this enclave of the Côte d'Or that feels opulent and rather alcoholic. Crushed strawberries and redcurrant jam sit at the forefront, with a hint of marmalade in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe maraschino cherries and Kirsch, hints of blood orange and an almost citrus-fresh, persistent finish. On reflection, this pleases the senses, but just misses some personality and engagement. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru was cropped at about 25hl/ha. I found just a little volatility on the nose, something that I could not ignore. The palate is sweet and candied, missing the nobility and substance of the Les Pruliers, with an almost gamy finish. I would like to revisit this in bottle and will not assign a score for now.
