The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is showing a little more new oak on the nose compared to its peers, but that seems to ebb with aeration, revealing very attractive scents of red berry fruit, sous-bois and crushed stone…but also some TCA. The palate is very smooth and fleshy, matched by a fine bead of acidity. There is a slightly honeyed texture and, like a couple of its compatriot Chambolles, the finish requires more tension and grip. Seductive, plush and with just a hint of exoticism, I foresee this repaying bottle age. Maybe time will temper its exuberance. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

Barrel sample. Deep crimson. Sample just a little tired on the nose. I think it’s all fine, exciting and correct but it’s not that easy to tell. Lots of sweet fruit … and some heat on the finish. (JR)
The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru is matured in slightly less new oak than the Charmes. It has a very intense, almost flamboyant floral nose, bunches of violets and iris complementing the black cherry and cassis fruit. The palate is well balanced with a very sweet candied core of fruit and touches of menthol and licorice toward the finish. Very fine, although I prefer the noblesse of the Charmes.
