The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos is promising, unwinding in the glass with scents of cherries, raspberries, raw cocoa and rose petals. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with tangy acids and melting tannins, it concludes with a penetrating finish.

The 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos, which is completely destemmed, has a lifted bouquet of brambly dark berry fruit and light sea spray scents that come through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins; a touch of balsamic on the entry combines neatly with the rather sultry black fruit. This does not possess the persistence of Duroché’s higher cuvées but it is very well balanced and fresh.
Destemmed, as are all the village wines. Near Claude Dugat next to the church. The freshness comes from the Combe Lavaux. Planted in 1998, their youngest vines. Tank sample. Bright-fruited and quite charming but without massive depth. Perhaps because the vines are quite young? (JR)
