The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Maréchale 1er Cru is, again, very well defined on the nose with a little more complexity that de l'Arlot's Clos de l’Arlot. There’s a mélange of red and black fruit, sous-bois , bay leaf and clove. The palate is medium-bodied, finely-chiseled, taut and linear, with a keen thread of acidity. This is more sapid on the finish and bears a persistent aftertaste—a great wine for the vintage insofar that it retains freshness and vitality without losing any terroir expression. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de la Maréchale has turned out beautifully, unwinding in the glass with scents of red berries, plums, orange rind, sweet spices and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, ample and concentrated, with powdery tannins and lively acids, it's firmer and chalkier than its Chambolle counterparts, and it will require a bit of patience.
8ha. Unracked cask sample. Earthy and lively and really quite rich. Zesty and lots of fun. (JR)
