Rich and refined, this is an aristocratic wine for Nuits-Saint-Georges. Needs a bit of air to open up, but then the dark cherry and fresh plum are augmented by a rooty touch. Full-bodied, but with lovely delicacy on the silky palate. The finish has so many delicate spice and earth nuances. Drink or hold.

Aromas of cherries, dark chocolate, plums and spices introduce the 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots (Domaine Gagey), a medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy wine that's lively and gourmand, with powdery tannins and an enveloping core of fruit. This is another fine success.

The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Boudots 1er Cru offers good intensity on the nose, which offers a mixture of red and black fruit and a faint seawater tinge. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and nicely integrated oak. Black cherries and wild strawberry form the entry, and there is a light smear of vanilla toward the finish. Moderate in length. This Les Boudots should drink well for the next decade and a half.

Cask sample. Mid to deep ruby. Textured nose somehow, with an almost powdery texture. A change of gear as we move from Côte de Beaune to Côte de Nuits. More savoury and less overtly sweet. Nicely managed tannins and a bit of a peacock’s tail on the end. The acidity is more evident than in the Côte de Beaune wines. (JR)
