Les Chabiots sits above Les Amoureuses – pedigree that seems to escape most people. It’s singing again in 2019, a delicate and fine-boned wine with a nose full of violets. But don’t let its prettiness deceive you, there’s plenty of power to back it up – with a core of raspberry and bright red cherry fruit, supported by a backbone of minerality. The tannins are seamless, the acidity fine and long. Tight and taut, this is outstanding.

The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Chabiots 1er Cru has a generous nose of Morello cherry and strawberry scents, though by direct comparison, it does not deliver the complexity or possess the engagement of its impressive peers. The palate is rounded in texture, lower in acidity, luscious and plush—an easy-drinking Chambolle that feels long but is disinclined to articulate its terroir. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
Not surprisingly this is aromatically more elegant with its cool aromas of essence of red currant, cherry, lavender and discreet spice wisps. There is excellent verve to the quite finely detailed flavors that exude evident minerality on the chiseled, youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. This is lovely and very Chambollesque; indeed it's pretty much textbook Chabiots.
