Mid crimson. Ripe but fresh and deep fruited. Generous, smooth, harmonious. Darker and a touch of spice on the palate. Tannins are polished but set for a long life ahead. (JH)

The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Lavières comes across a bit moody and sullen from barrel, especially after the livelier Les Charmois. Raspberry and wild strawberry scents eventually emerge, albeit reluctantly. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Very poised and quite mineral-driven, this conveys fine energy and a satisfying sense of strictness toward the black-pepper-tinged finish. Excellent.
Here too there is a plethora of spice components adding interest to the plum, blue berry and soft earth suffused aromas. There is both excellent volume and richness to the mouthcoating medium weight flavors that possess a refreshing salinity that really comes to the fore on the more complex if mildly warm finale. Worth checking out.
