Aromas of rose petals, cassis, crème de cassis, dark berries and touches of violet introduce the 2019 Alcée, a medium-bodied, juicy, lively and perfectly balanced wine that’s elegantly fleshy and fresh. It’s an attractive wine from the appellation of Castillon.

The 2019 Alcée is just a little muddled on the nose compared to the 2019 Carignan tasted alongside, more diffuse with red berry fruit, allspice and cracked black pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with dry tannins, a bit austere although it gains weight towards the finish. It just misses the complexity and personality of its peers. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Tasted blind. Mellow nose, redolent of but not dominated by top-quality oak. Really very classy. Fresh rather than tart. Good core of fruit. Quite a bit of tannin on the very end. (JR)
Black cherries, red plums, tobacco, and chalky minerality all emerge from the 2019 Château Alcée, a juicy, medium-bodied, round, incredibly satisfying Castillon with ripe tannins and rock-solid overall balance. It's beautiful today, yet I see no reason it shouldn't evolve and drink well for a decade.
