Punteggio 91/100 · Jeb Dunnuck, Apr 2022

A pretty, complex nose of red and blue fruits, flowers, incense, tobacco, and chocolaty oak all emerge from the 2019 Château Pierre 1Er, a medium-bodied, balanced, nicely concentrated 2019 that does everything right. It shows the more streamlined style of the vintage yet has depth, density, and length. It's well worth checking out.

From 11 hectares of gravel opposite Château Figeac, the 2019 Pierre 1er delivers aromas of cassis, plums, violets, dark chocolate and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively palate that's framed by powdery, grainy tannins that temper the sweet, generous fruit so characteristic of the vintage to pleasing effect. This estate was formerly known as Château La Croix Figeac.

The 2019 Pierre 1er has developed nicely during its élevage. It remains pretty rich and heady, but all the elements are nicely balanced. Succulent dark cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, licorice and leather fill out the layers nicely. I would give this another year or two in bottle to soften. Tasted two times.

So much blackberry and black cherry with brambleberry and bark undertones. Full-bodied with a solid core of fruit and polished tannins. Classy and structured with polish and focus. Some crushed black pepper and dark chocolate. Needs time to soften. Best after 2026.
