Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2025-2045, Neal Martin, Feb 2023

The 2019 Petit-Village has finally found its mojo after a rather shaky time at bottling. Here, it has a focused, almost Medoc-like bouquet that suggest some expressive Cabernet Franc in the blend. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fine acidity, quite peppery in style with a classic, quintessential Pomerol finish. Lovely. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Dense, shaded, blackish garnet. Tough on the end! Some cool fruit but not much richness. (JR)

Based on 75% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2019 Château Petit-Village offers a spicy, already complex, medium to full-bodied style to go with notes of mulled red and black fruits, cedary herbs, loamy earth, and chocolate. More restrained and elegant now from bottle than barrel, it's still beautifully textured, has ripe, supple tannins, a great mid-palate, and one heck of a finish. It's another awesome Pomerol to drink any time over the coming 15-20 years.

Attractive aromas of plums, currants and spices introduce the 2019 Petit Village, a medium to full-bodied, sumptuous and enveloping wine with a fleshy core of fruit, succulent acids and polished tannins. Gourmand and generous while remaining nicely balanced, this is a fine effort from an improving château.
