FINE+RARE Tasting Note, Jun 2020

Such character to this wine. Lovely savoury, raw meat tones, violets, blueberry coulis notes backed by more scented clove oak aromas. Lovely even set, elegant expansive tannins, lots of finesse. The fruit is very pure, precise, real clarity and a spectrum of bright red plum and redcurrant notes with richer blackberry and black plum. The detail of the tannins is excellent. Very elegant

I grossly underrated the 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus blind at rued my initial score as it meliorated in the glass. It has a wonderful nose with blackberry, crushed stone and pressed flowers - the oak is beautifully integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and a generous heaping of white pepper; the oak is just a bit too pronounced on the finish, though it assimilates with time in the glass and gains more complexity. Give this 3-4 years in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

Tasted blind. Dense garnet. Clean, fresh nose. A little tense and dry on the palate. Arguably more like a St-Émilion than a Pomerol but a good wine. Graphite finish. (JR)

Chocolaty red and black fruits, spice, and some chalky, mineral-like notes all emerge from the 2019 Château La Fleur (Dassault), a solid, medium-bodied, concentrated, balanced 2019 that can be drunk today or cellared for a decade. It shows the fresher, lively style of the vintage.
