Firm, slightly cheesy nose. Then well-managed tannins and, like the village wine, a strong streak of acidity. I wonder whether this was picked relatively early? Bitter finish. (JR)

The 2015 Gevrey-Chambertin En Champs is the first release for the domaine, because they felt that the vines are now old and the millerandé bunches tend to be good quality. There is around one-third new oak in this cru. The bouquet is well defined on the nose with plenty of dark berry fruit, briary and boysenberry developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy ripe tannin. I like the tension here: very focused and full of energy with hints of blood orange filtering through on the finish. It was a good decision to break ranks from the "village".
