Much as it was from barrel, the 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques is immensely promising, mingling aromas of wild berries and cassis with hints of smoked meats, spices, rose petals and black truffles in an incipiently complex bouquet. Deep, full-bodied and multidimensional, it's layered and concentrated, with lively acids, immense concentration and a long, penetrating finish. Built to age, it will demand patience.

A serious nose, with stony mineral notes and a damp earthiness. There's a lovely poise and verve to the palate, spiced notes as well as freshness and richness of dark fruit, five spice and tobacco. Delicious. (AC)
The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru has a very pure bouquet, quite intense but with a greater proportion of red fruit compared to other cuvées. The palate is underpinned by fine tannins. Very compact at the moment and displaying an almost vitamin-like intensity toward the finish. Blood orange lingers on the aftertaste. This will require several years in bottle.
