Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2030-2060, Neal Martin, Nov 2022

The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is arresting on the nose, showing a touch of brief reduction before black and red fruit soar from the glass. There seems to be some stem addition here lending an attractive pepperiness, but it is more opaque and more vivid than the 2018 Clos de Tart. The palate is medium-bodied with distinctive whole bunch acting as the guiding hand. Maybe too much? Yet it is very fresh and vibrant with a wonderful arching structure on the finish. This is being broached years too early and it jus needs a long time to assimilate the stems. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2018 red tasting.

Cask sample. Packed full of fruit, and so much texture on the palate. The tannins are very firm and backed by a vibrancy and zesty acidity. It is ripe and mouth-filling and currently absorbing all the oak. A wine that exhibits power and intensity. This will take time to come around, but when it does it should be gorgeous. (AC)

The 2018 Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru is 100% whole bunch and matured in 50% new oak. Somehow the aromatics do not quite click into gear and need a lot of coaxing before blackberry, raspberry and white pepper scents begin to appear, followed later by a splash of iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins and well-judged acidity. This feels very cohesive, and the harmonious, lightly peppered finish fans out as a Grand Cru ought to. It needs some bottle age to really meld together, but it will certainly be worth waiting for.
