The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru has a complex nose with evidence of some stem addition here lending an underlying peppery character. You could argue that at this stage it rather obscures the terroir expression, though the whole bunch seems commensurate with the fruit. The palate is crisp and precise, the stems lend a discrete peppery character. Not a powerful Musigny, yet perhaps the most elegant with a sensual kirsch-, liquorice-tinged finish. The beautiful 2018 Musigny Grand Cru soars from the glass with notes of violets, rose petals, raspberries and blood orange. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and racy, with fine tannins and terrific intensity, though it's less overtly muscular at this stage than the blockier Bonne Mares. This, too, is very promising.
The 2018 Musigny Grand Cru is 100% whole-bunch fruit and comprises three barrels this year. It has considerably more intensity on the nose compared to the Bonnes-Mares, featuring blackberry, raspberry and light briar scents, hints of tangerine and a splash of soy. The medium-bodied palate offers supple tannin, fine acidity and a fleshy texture, although it does not possess the complexity and breeding of previous Musignys I have tasted from the domaine. A lovely wine, albeit one that I would broach earlier than others.

Situato a sud di Nuits-Saint-Georges, a Prémeaux-Prissey, il Domaine de la Vougeraie è stato creato nel 1999, raggruppando sotto un unico nome tutti i possedimenti di Jean-Claude Boisset. La proprietà conta un totale di 40 ettari di vigneti, con ampie tenute a Vougeot e parcelle in sei Grands Crus.
