Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2023-2030, Richard Hemming MW, jancisrobinson.com, Aug 2021

55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Yield 42 hl/ha. Aged in French oak for 12–15 months (40% new). Still very dense in colour, although the shade is moving towards garnet. Rather floral nose, crisp blackcurrant fruit, firm and savoury with lots of bitter liquorice on the finish. Requires coaxing! Emphatically savoury, but with a bit of air, the austerity softens and there is lovely pure cassis on the finish. Plenty of age potential – this still feels combative. (RH)

The medium garnet-purple colored 2015 Brown has loads of crushed black berries and red currants notions with notes of tilled loam, dried herbs and meat. Medium-bodied, firm and chewy in the mouth, it has a lively backbone and herbal lift to the finish.

Magnum. This lovely wine was a gift from Jean-Christophe Mau to our 1950s Babes lunch. Pale, very slightly oaky still on the nose. Lots of fun with a certain slightly oily sweetness but kept fresh by its blackcurrant-leaf aroma and correct acidity. Far from thin but very promising for the future. If I saw this on a wine list I would probably grab it with both hands. It looks to be well distributed in the US where it retails from about $30 a bottle. (JR)

Creamy sweet lemon-posset nose. Lots of energy and tang. Not one of the richest. Muscular! (JR)
