The 1996 Rust En Vrede proprietary red is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz, and 10% Merlot. It reveals gorgeous floral, blackberry, and sweet cherry aromas. This is a pristine, fresh, intricate wine, with a powerful raspberry attack that is followed by a beautifully etched, sweet blueberry and cherry character. Red-ruby. Tarry oak dominates the nose; slight suggestion of green wood. Plump and ripe, with good sweetness and moderate complexity. But shows a faint dry edge that lingers through the oaky finish.
