The 2006 Clos de Vougeot-Musigni is an elegant, refined Burgundy laced with crushed flowers, sweet herbs, mint and red fruit. This closes up pretty quickly in the glass, but not before offering a good look at what awaits readers who can be patient. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2031. Yeast extract and possible brett/animal fur. Rather over the top and tarted up. Very aggressive build. Drying tannins. Extremely bitter on the finish even though the sweetness of the fruit on the front palate does its best to distract from this. (JR)
Good deep red. Musky aromas of black plum, currant and licorice. Fat, thick, sweet and deep; opulent verging on unctuous, with alcohol of 14%. Gros says his clones give a lot of ripeness, but I find this a bit roasted. Finishes with big, tongue-dusting tannins and a note of smoked meat.

Based in Vosne-Romanée, Domaine Gros Frère & Sœur is a relatively large estate for the Côte de Nuits with an impressive portfolio of wines including three Grands Crus (Richebourg, Clos de Vougeot and Echezeaux).
