Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2019-2025, Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Good medium red. A touch of reduction to the very ripe aromas of raspberry, mocha, chocolate and musky underbrush. Sweet, supple, fine-grained village wine with the concentration and density of the vintage. This saturates the entire mouth with soil tones and saline minerality. Finishes with building, ripe tannins and very good length, but doesn't have quite the spark for a higher score.

Cask sample. Black cherry, cranberry, juniper – more diverse and interesting fruit than their Morey-St-Denis at the same price. Very plastic tannin – easy to drink now. (RH)

The 2015 Chambolle Musigny Vieilles Vignes comes from vines on the Morey side of the appéllation and includes 50% whole cluster. I felt that the aromatics were a little diffuse when I tasted the wine, perhaps requiring the remainder of its barrel maturation to knit together. The palate is much better with crisp tannin, quite sharp dark cherry and raspberry fruit leading to a nicely focused, quite penetrating finish. There is good vigor here - it just needs the aromatics to up their game, which I am sure they will.

(70% vendange entier ; 30% new oak): Good dark red. Aromas of dark raspberry, chocolate and flowers; the whole-cluster element brings needed lift. Juicy and penetrating if a bit medicinal in a chocolatey dark-fruit way. No shortage of acidity here.
