Note di degustazione
Grus – meaning crane – is named after a constellation visible above the Elqui Valley. 50% Syrah, 26% Garnacha, 14% Petite Syrah and 10% Petit Verdot, grown at over 1,700 metres’ altitude. Hand-harvested and foot-trodden. Aged in concrete eggs for 12 months. (Will Heslop) Mildly, but not unattractively, stinky in a concrete egg way. Lots of acidity and punch. Very fresh and very 21 st century. I wouldn’t mind a bit more breadth of fruit. Lots of grip on the palate at the end. (JR)

The 2015 Grus is a blend of 50% Syrah, 26% Garnacha, 14% Petite Sirah and 10% Petit Verdot fermented in lagar and matured in egg-shaped concrete vats. They removed the Malbec to make a varietal bottling, so this is different from the previous vintage, where Petit Verdot now provides some freshness and perhaps an herbal twist. The soils are all granite-based, which provides very good freshness; the wine has moderate alcohol and superb freshness and acidity. It's nicely textured and has fine-grained tannins. Long and tasty, with very good tension. There is a note of orange peel that also showed in the pure varietal Syrah. A great mountain blend. 14,826 bottles produced.
