The 2007 Domaine la Boutinière Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a traditional, very Provencal styled wine that yields a deep ruby color to go with complex, meaty aromatics of garrigue, spice cake, fresh herbs, and sweet cherry and raspberry fruits on the nose. Quite perfumed and interesting, this gains a hint of game and river rock-like qualities with air. This leads to a medium to full-bodied wine that’s fleshy, supple, and beautifully fruited, showing a light, clean texture and a good freshness on the finish. Drink it over the coming decade.

Deep red. Spicy red fruits, underbrush and minerals on the nose, lifted by a whiff of flowers; smells like a Burgundy Sweet and juicy on entry, then creamy in the middle, with sweet red berry and pepper flavors in a seamless, modern style. Finishes with silky tannins, resounding floral flavors and very good persistence.

The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape is round, with sweet kirsch and soil undertones, herbs and spice, in a medium-bodied, seductive style. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. These are very good wines from an estate that has never left me satisfied. Perhaps it is the vintage, or perhaps things are actually looking better, but these are two nice, up-front, richly fruity, traditional Chateauneuf du Papes. No known American importer.

Grenache Noir 70%, Syrah 10%, Mourvèdre 10%, Cinsault 10% Deeper crimson than some. Round and ripe and mouthfilling. Very flattering without being too sweet. Fresh and serious and meaty. Certainly not too alcoholic. Neat finish without much alcohol. Zesty and dry. (JR)
