Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2022-2030, Neal Martin, Mar 2021

The 2018 Clos Floridene has an open-knit bouquet of brambly red berry fruit, sous-bois and light rose petal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, not powerful or deep but delivering plenty of freshness. It just misses some flesh toward the finish. But I admire its classicism.

The 2018 Clos Floridène is wonderfully polished and refined right out of the gate. Dried herbs, spice, leather and earthy undertones give the 2018 striking aromatic presence. Deceptively medium in body, the 2018 is persistent through to the finish. Clos Floridène is an unusually polished Graves with tons of personality.

Denis Dubourdieu lives on in this wine. 51% Sauvignon Blanc, 49% Sémillon. Made and aged for nine months in oak. Much richer and more concentrated than the Ch Reynon Blanc 2018. Really nicely balanced and appetising and juicy for current drinking. I wouldn't bet on it for very long-term ageing. That lanolin note of oaked Bordeaux Sémillon with a serious finish. Not a blockbuster but with juicy green-fruit notes and a luxurious overlay of light oaking. Satin texture. VGV (JR)

The 2018 Clos Floridène has a really excellent, well defined and focused bouquet with brambly red fruit, crushed stone, cedar and pressed flowers unfurling from the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, slightly earthy and ferrous in style with a classic, quite open finish that suggests it will drink well just one or two years after bottling. Very fine.
