The 2018 Mazeyres has a very floral and expressive bouquet of plush black fruit, mint and light earthy aromas. It leaps out of the glass. The palate is harmonious on the entry with grippy tannins, but it is surprisingly herbal toward the finish, and I wondered whether there is a bit of underripe fruit here. I didn’t pick it up out of barrel, but returning several times to examine my glass, I detect a slight vegetal note lingering on the aftertaste.

Classic Pomerol notes of black cherries, plums, violets, chocolate, and spring flowers emerge from the 2018 Château Mazeyres. Medium to full-bodied, it has a beautifully balanced, elegant mouthfeel, nicely integrated tannins, and a great finish. It has a firm, focused, yet concentrated style that's going to benefit from 4-5 years in the cellar yet evolve gracefully for 15 years or more. It's the finest wine I've tasted from this Château.

An Alain Moueix property that is certified biodynamic. Mid crimson. Milder on the nose than the average Pomerol. Gentle and floral – really quite distinctive. This really builds towards a lovely finale in the way of a fine burgundy. There is no shortage of supple tannins. Admirable refreshment value in this wine. Well done! Though perhaps one might describe it as a lunchtime Pomerol?! (JR)
