Punteggio 87/100 · Da bere 2022-2027, Neal Martin, Mar 2021

The 2018 Teyssier retains the opulent nose that I noticed from barrel, with dates and black cherry fruit, redolent of a red from Stellenbosch in a quirky way. The palate is ripe, a little more controlled than 12 months ago, those minty notes still tincturing the sweet black fruit. The light finish just lacks a bit of grip and length. Fine, but maybe a bit trop for those with a goût anglicisé (presuming that exists.)

The 2018 Château Teyssier (Famille Durand-Teyssier) (90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc) just about jumps from the glass with its mulberry and cassis fruits as well as floral, cedary spice, and incense-like nuances. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and nicely balanced, it has sweet yet present tannins, a fruit-forward vibe, and outstanding length. It's well worth buying and should evolve for 8-10 years, if not longer.

The 2018 Teyssier is a terrific and accessible Saint-Émilion from Jonathan Maltus. Crushed red berry fruit, spice, new oak, chocolate and floral notes flesh out in an attractive, supple 2018 that will drink well right out of the gate. The radiance of the year comes through nicely, with all of the elements deftly balanced.

The 2018 Teyssier has an opulent bouquet of kirsch, dates and black cherry fruit that bursts from the glass like an overexcited five-year-old. The palate is very ripe but not overbearing, with ravishing sweet black cherries, loganberry and touches of mint toward the forward finish. Not bad at all, although I personally prefer the previous vintage.
