Punteggio 90/100 · Da bere 2023-2028, Yohan Castaing, Wine Advocate, Nov 2023

A blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 Marjosse is the essence of the gourmand, elegant Bordeaux, revealing aromas of rose petal, dark berries, spring flowers and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with a succulent entry, it is perfumed and terribly juicy with a delicate, fruity, ethereal finish. This is a gorgeous value.

A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Malbec made by Pierre Lurton (of Ch Cheval Blanc and Yquem fame) at his home estate just south of St-Émilion.  Deep crimson, with the fragrance of small red and black berries, a zestiness that is unexpected in 2018, peppery spice too. While there is richness and weight, not least from the 14.5% alcohol, there is unexpected freshness here too, the oak well balanced with the fruit. The tannins are already surprisingly supple and there's a rather nice peppery aftertaste to distract from the felt presence of the alcohol at the back of the throat. Juicy and approachable for such a young wine. (JH)

Punteggio 90-92/100 · Da bere 2020-2029, Neal Martin, Nov 2019

The 2018 Marjosse offers lovely black currant and raspberry aromas, fresh and vibrant in the glass; plum jam and black olive notes emerge with time. The palate is underpinned by fine tannins, good substance and a crisp, cedar-tinged finish that is a pure joy. A must-buy from Pierre Lurton’s home estate.

The 2018 Château Marjosse is a juicy, lively, medium-bodied effort that has outstanding notes of ripe black cherries, violets, and a touch of minerality. It has good acidity, terrific balance, and should end up being an outstanding wine.
