Dark fruited and a touch cedary on the nose. On the leaner end of the spectrum but still balancing the freshness and the fruit. Dry, fine tannins and really rather elegant but the opposite of a blockbuster. Lingers. (JH)

(12% new oak, down from 50% for this cuvée five years ago): Saturated, dark red-ruby. Deep, ripe nose offers scents of black fruits, licorice and wild spices. Sweet and rich but youthfully reduced, with its dark fruit flavors complicated by spices and mocha. Finishes with big, serious, ripe tannins that call for some patience. Fred recommends waiting for 15 years but I'd be a bit more impatient to pull the cork on this one.
The 2013 Chambolle Musigny les Charmes Vieilles Vignes comes from two parcels of vine that include some that date back to 1902. It has a ripe and generous bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry, Provencal herbs and heather that is nicely focused and intense. The palate is medium-bodied with lithe, quite fleshy tannins that lend this Chambolle real volume, although I am seeking just a little more delineation and finesse toward the finish.
