A big, punchy wine, the 2012 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch hits the palate with bold dark cherries, pomegranate, spices, new leather and savory herbs. This is one of the most intense, overt wines I have tasted from Jamie Kutch, yet all the elements are in the right place. As good as it is today, the 2012 will be even better in a few years.

Elegant, richly aromatic, loads of soy and balsam on the nose. Light, sweet oak influence. Firm tannins. Great style and shape – has the clarity of modern fruit with the savoury terroir of Burgundy. (RH)
Dark purplish crimson. Very attractive dried herbs nose. Juicy fruit and dry on the finish. Just a little too dry on the end at the moment but wonderful geographical distinction. (JR)
A dark, brooding beauty, the 2012 Pinot Noir McDougall Ranch is deep and intense to the core. Smoke and new leather notes add intrigue as this rich, structured Pinot blossoms in the glass. Even with all of the richness, the balance of fruit, acidity and whole clusters is magnificent. The 2012 is aging in 50% new French oak barrels, all of which it is handling well. This is a Pinot of serious depth and density, perhaps a bit more than the Kutch wines have had in the past.
