Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2025-2055, Jeb Dunnuck, Jul 2025

A rarity in these parts, the 2015 Petit Verdot Single Vineyard is broodingly dark and inky in color. Meaty, salty, leathery, and herbal, it is still plenty tannic in its youth, unfurling full-bodied layers of violet, raspberry, and cedar dashed between well-integrated oak, almost all of it French, with one American barrel used for additional complexity. It has a huge amount of power on the palate, the tannins elongated and firm, with a strong grip. This is one to drink in 20-30 years.

Glass-staining ruby. Potent black and blue fruit, licorice, espresso and vanilla aromas are complemented by a suave floral topnote. Deeply concentrated cassis, bitter cherry and blackberry flavors take a sweeter turn through the midpalate. Shows impressive vivacity for its heft and finishes extremely long and spicy, with well-knit tannins and repeating florality.

100% Petit Verdot. 17 months in French (75%) and American (25%) oak barrels. On the nose, it has massive black-fruit expression and beautiful complexity: orange liqueur, Chinese ink, cloves, vanilla and a delicate toast touch. Terrific concentration and intensity but still in shape and balanced. The perfect ripeness of the fruit is notable. The common vegetal character of the Petit Verdot is so well under control. Fleshy texture with silky tannins and an endless finish. I see great ageing potential for this wine. (FC)

Super-intense, elderberry character on the nose and a great balance between black fruit and freshness on the bold palate. If this were a bit more elegant and complex, it would rate even higher.
