Cask sample. Bright purplish crimson. Initial impression seems to be oak spice though it might be fruit-derived. A nicely dusty quality too. Silky, juicy and very fresh, the freshness giving the persistence. Chalky finish. GV (JH)

(the estate owns 1.19 hectare of Bourgogne, half in Chambolle and half in Gilly-lès-Citeaux, with production down by about one-third in Chambolle in 2016): Good dark red. Fruit-driven aromas of black raspberry, black cherry and dark chocolate lifted by floral and mineral elements. An attractive sweet, supple wine with moderate acidity and chocolatey tannins.
The 2016 Bourgogne Rouge has a tightly wound bouquet that may be suffering bottle shock (it was bottled three weeks earlier). The palate is quite dense and concentrated. Maybe the tannins show a little coarseness compared to others, while it tightens up on the tough finish. Give this 18 to 24 months in bottle, because it is surprisingly dense and may soften with age.
