The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers may have been out of sorts when I tasted it, but it appeared to be the one wine in the portfolio that lacked a bit of concentration and depth. While its bouquet of rose petal, citrus rind and Griotte cherry is very attractive, the wine is somewhat fluid, with tangy acids and a detailed, stony finish, but missing some flesh and intensity. Having been frosted in 2016, my suspicion is that the vines yielded a bit too generously this year.

Has that lovely Chambolle scent that was in the Aux Échezeaux. Red fruits and rose petals and just a hint of spice with the same spice on the palate. Sweet fruited and with a lightness of touch but not without intensity. Firm peppery tannins provide the structure. Lovely counterbalance to the scented fruit. Moreish and mouth-watering. (JH)
