2016 Grands Echezeaux

(just one new barrel of this juice, from vines that suffered from the frost): Bright ruby. Much darker and less expressive on the nose than the Bonnes-Mares, with dark berry and licorice notes dominating. Then juicy, spicy and quite tight, even imploded, in the early going, offering penetrating flavors of blackberry, licorice, violet, bitter chocolate and crushed stone. This wine is almost too concentrated and will need extended bottle aging to express itself. The tannins are tight and firm but not hard.
