(made entirely from fruit on the north side of the village owing to the severe frost on the south side): Bright medium red. Reticent scents of dark berries and flowers. Then surprisingly powerful and penetrating in the mouth, showing serious medicinal reserve to its flavors of dark berries, menthol and dried flowers. Today I prefer the Vosne villages for its early appeal and sweetness. This wine is more serious and tannic.

The 2016 Nuits Saint Georges Village comes from the Vosne-Romanée side this year (the Prémeaux side affected by frost). The nose is a mixture of red and blue fruit, nicely defined albeit without the definition of the Vosne-Romanée. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, nicely structured with a touch of salinité on the finish. Not bad at all but I would drink this in its flush of youth.
No whole bunch. Two new casks out of 11. Usually 50% from each of south and north but south really affected by the frost so mainly north, near Vosne, from some very good vineyards. Broad and settled nose. Rich and racy. Lots of fun. Really nice until the slightly drying end. (JR)
