Punteggio 93/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, Jan 2018

Good medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of strawberry, redcurrant, licorice, spices, minerals, dried flowers and underbrush. A bit reduced and medicinal but already displays a noble texture, captivating subtle sweetness and lovely length, finishing with a firm but fine dusting of tannins. This fruit was destemmed entirely but the wine has plenty of ripe tannic clout to ensure a slow evolution in bottle. This suave, fine-grained wine already conveys strong soil character here but needs time in bottle. Incidentally, my sample lost its reductive character with 24 hours in the recorked bottle, showing higher-pitched spice and floral notes and more sweetness and cut.

(all destemmed; 55% new oak; Faiveley will add "en Orveaux" to the front label of this wine with the 2015 release; these vines next to La Combe d'Orveau and Petit Musigny face south but are situated on very poor soil in a cold combe ): Dark red. Highly complex, cooler aromas of strawberry rhubarb pie, minerals and spicy underbrush. Supple in texture but also boasts electric energy and terrific delineation. Dense and savory but not a fleshy style. Finishes with suave tannins and superb subtle persistence. This sexy if somewhat idiosyncratic wine will be most appreciated by those who crave energy and salinity in their Burgundies.
