Kata's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard is gorgeous. Medium in body and gracious, the 2014 has it all going on. Red berry fruit, rose petal and mint are all beautifully delineated throughout. The flavors are bright, precise and beautifully lifted in this striking, impeccable Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2014 is just as impressive as it was last year.

Made from 80% Cabernet and 20% Petite Sirah, there’s even less of the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard (16 barrels) than the 2013 and it too is inky purple in color (no doubt from the high percentage of Petite Sirah) and a concentrated, seamless beauty. Toasted bread, spices, cassis and hints of graphite all emerge from this lively, plump 2014 that’s much more open and ready to go than the more reserved, classically styled 2013. Nevertheless, I love its mid-palate, it has plenty of tannin, and I suspect will evolve gracefully given its overall balance and harmony. It too is a smokin’ effort to drink over the coming 15-20 years.

Like most 2014s, it is open for business and should continue to drink well for at least 10-15 years.
