Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2020-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2020

The 2017 La Gargone is another terrific wine from Domaine du Bouscat. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, licorice and spice infuse the 2017 with notable raciness and character. Readers will have a tough time finding a better value.

Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2032, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020

Severe spring frost impacted 75% of the vineyard in 2017, resulting in about half the usual yields. The 2017 La Gargone is a blend of 60% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 20% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple colored, the aromas come roaring out of the glass with vibrant black cherries, blueberries and spice cake notes plus wafts of mossy bark and lavender. Medium-bodied and delicately expressed, it offers bags of juicy fruit and a pleasant chewiness, finishing with loads of energy.

Deeper colored, the 2017 Domaine Du Bouscat La Gargone is a bigger, more medium to full-bodied beauty boasting loads of blue fruits, violets, and floral notes. Made from 60% Merlot, 20% Malbec, 18% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged two years in 90% new oak, it’s a ripe, sexy, beautifully polished effort that has fine tannins, outstanding balance, and a great finish. Drink it over the coming 10-12 years or more.

The 2017 du Bouscaut “Cuvée La Gargone” is raised in 90% new oak. It has a lifted bouquet with touches of menthol infusing the black cherry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little hardness towards the finish driven by the Malbec. Give it a year in bottle and hopefully it will gain a bit more charm.
