The 2017 Pierre 1er is ripe, racy and forward - all qualities that make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, tobacco, mint and licorice lend complexity throughout. Medium in body, with good persistence and fine balance, the 2017 is nicely done. Tasted two times.

Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Pierre 1er gives up cedar chest and tilled soil notes over a core of baked plums and warm black cherries with a touch of garrigue. Medium-bodied, the palate is a little tart and chewy, with a stewed tea finish.
The 2017 Pierre 1er offers brambly red berry fruit mixed with brown spice and light tobacco scents on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with light tannins, simple red fruit and decent substance on the finish, even if it is missing overall complexity.
Some notes of slightly oxidized fruit here. This has a deep core of blueberries and mulberries and delivers a bold, rich and quite dense palate. Drink now.
