A complicated vintage but Rocheyron delivers, showing delicate rosebud and raspberry leaf character, and a subtle gourmet generosity. This is almost aporoachable now, certainly in a year or two, with a tightrope walk of floralily, sharp minerality and cool blue fruits, very much a physical experience in the mouth. Widens through the palate into creamy raspberry, blueberries, smoked earth, saffron and fennel. A frost vintage, but only impacted the lower parts of the Rocheyron vintage, so almost no impact on the estate's main wine. 30% new oak for ageing, organic farming.

The 2017 Rocheyron, owned by Pete Sisseck, offers ripe red cherry and cranberry fruit on the nose that does not quite have the delineation of the previous two vintages. The palate offers pretty dark cherry fruit laced with soy, a fine bead of acidity and whilst not a deep nor powerful Saint-Émilion, it has a finely tuned, truffle-tinged finish that lingers. Whilst not up to the level of the 2016, there is a panache already sewn into this wine.
Peter Sisseck's Bordeaux outpost – he is also planning a sherry in the near future. 15% Cabernet Franc, 85% Merlot. Next to the stade municipal and about 1 km from L'If. Some frost damage so they are making less second wine this year. Fermented in concrete tanks. Aged in 50% new oak. L'If (tasted alongside) and this wine are very different. This has dusty dark fruit and a more minerally dry finesse in the texture. Almost delicate in its freshness and elegance. Long and cool-tasting, more restrained, compared with the exuberance of L'If.
