Punteggio 15.5/20 · Da bere 2021-2029, Tom Parker MW, jancisrobinson.com, Sep 2021

Tasted blind. Mid ruby colour. Quite vibrant fruit on the nose – compact and fresh. Graphite and fresh flowers on the palate. Medium weight and tangy. Brisk acidity brings a slight dilution to the mid palate, but this remains forward and approachable. There is a hint of charred wood on the finish. (TP)

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Monbrison gives up aromas of crushed black cherries, mulberries and warm blackcurrants with suggestions of lavender, dried herbs and charcoal. Medium-bodied, the palate features lively red berries flavors with a chewy texture and refreshing finish.

75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot . Crimson glow. Sappy, appetising nose that is rather Graves-like. Extremely dry on the end – positively austere. But I’m enjoying the direct aromas of pencil shavings. Fresh and clean. Bit of a palate scrub. (JR)

The 2017 Monbrison was cropped from 18 to 27 September aged entirely in new oak. It has an extravagant bouquet for Monbrison that feels as if it is wearing a bit too much “maquillage”. It is not unattractive but it does not really convey the essence of Margaux. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, crisp acidity, the oak a little domineering towards the short finish. I just feel that there is too much winemaking here.
