Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2020-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2020

The 2017 Cap de Mourlin is soft, plummy and easygoing - all qualities that make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years. Sweet dried cherry, tobacco, mint, dried flowers, licorice, spice and leather are nicely pushed forward in this soft, mid-weight, easygoing wine. Sweet floral and spice notes perk up the finish. I would not push my luck in aging here.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Cap de Mourlin delivers notes of baked black cherries, black raspberries and plum preserves with hints of spice cake, potpourri, forest floor and smoked meats. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with spicy black fruits, framed by velvety tannins and a lively line, finishing long.

The 2017 Cap de Moulin shows a little alcohol on the nose that detracts from its delineation. It feels rather ephemeral. The palate is medium-bodied with quite sharp tannins and good acidity. The wood seems to be singing from a different hymn sheet than the fruit on the finish.

The 2017 Chateau Cap De Mourlin is a solid effort. Lots of classy spiced red and black fruits, chocolate, and tobacco/herbal notes emerge on the nose, and it's medium-bodied, has plenty of richness and depth, light tannins, and just tons of charm. It should drink nicely for 7-8 years.
