The 2017 du Retout is deep garnet-purple colored and has a nose of stewed plums, baked cherries and cassis with touches of herbs, tobacco, earth and meat. The palate is medium-bodied, chewy, herbal and bitter.

The 2017 du Retout has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and cedar aromas, lightly spiced with good intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry, moderate weight and perhaps just missing a little grip on the finish. Still, this should drink nicely for 8 to 10 years. Tasted twice with consistent notes.
68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot. Mid cherry red. Has both ripe and herbaceous notes in the aroma but it is fragrant and inviting. On the palate, there’s a chocolate-like thickness to the texture, ie smooth rather than silky. A little bit of a block in the mouth, doesn’t really flow, but there’s plenty of fruit and that flavour persists. (JH)
Very dark with purple rim. Quite a delicate, stony/mineral aroma with some graphite as well as refined dark fruit. Firm, chewy tannins but with the depth of fruit to keep pace as the wine matures. Generous fruit blanced by firm tannins and freshness. Needs more time than some. (JH)
