Punteggio 85/100 · Da bere 2020-2028, Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Wine Advocate, Mar 2020

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Fougas Maldoror charges out of the glass with bold baked plums, boysenberries and Christmas cake notes with wafts of dried leaves and dusty soil. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is muscular and sturdy, with a fair amount of chewy tannins on the finish.

The 2017 Maldoror from Château Forgas offers attractive red cherry, crushed strawberry and orange zest aromas on what you might call a "playful" nose. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. A little oak needs to subsume but there is a lovely silky finish and quite a persistent aftertaste. A modern style Côtes de Bourg, one that is well crafted.

A blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2017 Chateau Fougas Maldoror sports a deep ruby/plum color as well as terrific notes of black raspberries, vanilla, crushed flowers, and cedary spice. This rich, medium-bodied, 2017 has subtle background oak, ripe tannins, good mid-palate depth, and the class to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink nicely through 2027.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Fougas Maldoror gives up scents of hoisin and preserved plums with touches of black raspberries and spice cake. The palate is medium-bodied with a grippy frame and just enough earth and spice-laced fruit, finishing a little chewy. Apr 2018, www.robertparker.com
