2017 Figeac

Tasted blind. Very juicy and luscious. Then a bit stringy and tart. Not much fun at this stage. Light and simple. But it grew in the glass to be more intriguingly savoury. (JR)

47% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc. Crimson hue with a slightly transparent rim. Still a little shy but delicate berry-fruit aromas as it opens. Juicy and refreshing but without the density and concentration of top years. Very pure and refined, though, the tannins fine-grained and precise. Early charm but longevity could surprise. (JL)

A frost year giving an atypical blend with extremely low Cabernget Franc. Heavy smoke aromatics on the opening beats, with firm tannins at this point, concentrated keeping everything in line. Holds its core and it opens in waves of cassis, bilberry, campfire, rose stem and tobacco leaf. Mouthwatering slate finish. Harvest September 7 to October 3, 100% new oak for ageing.
